As indicated in the 2010 Health Kentuckians Report, annual health care expenditures in Kentucky directly related to smoking are $1 billion. Combined costs for alcohol and other drugs to health care, law enforcement, motor vehicle crashes, crime and lost productivity have been calculated nearly $3.0 billion each year.


According to the 2002 Kentucky Treatment Outcome Study, for every dollar spent on treatment, tax payers save $4.16 in criminal justice costs alone.
